A Turkish visa for Indians comes in two forms: an online e-Visa, available only to Indian travellers who hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit, and a sticker visa applied for through the Turkish visa application centres in India. Indian ordinary passport holders cannot enter Türkiye visa-free, so choosing the right route before you book flights is the most important decision.
This guide sets out both routes using the official rules published by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Turkish Embassy in New Delhi: who qualifies for the e-Visa, where to apply for a sticker visa, the published fees, the documents to prepare and what to do if your application is refused.
Key points
- Indian ordinary, special and service passport holders need a visa; only diplomatic passport holders are visa-exempt (up to 90 days).
- The e-Visa is a single-entry visa valid for one month and requires a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit.
- Without that supporting document, apply for a sticker visa through a Gateway visa application centre in India.
- The e-Visa covers tourism and commerce only. Work, study and other purposes need a sticker visa.
- Apply for the e-Visa only at evisa.gov.tr; the Embassy warns that other websites charge more than twice the official fee.
Do Indians Need a Visa for Turkey?
Yes. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indian ordinary, special and service passport holders are required to have a visa to enter Türkiye. Diplomatic passport holders are exempt for stays of up to 90 days. There is no visa on arrival for Indian ordinary passports.
| Your situation | Route | Where to apply |
|---|---|---|
| You hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit, and you travel for tourism or business | e-Visa | Online at evisa.gov.tr |
| You do not hold such a document | Sticker visa | Gateway visa application centre in India |
| You travel to work, study, intern or for other purposes | Sticker visa of the relevant type | Gateway visa application centre in India |
| Diplomatic passport | Visa-exempt up to 90 days | No application |
Turkey e-Visa for Indians: Eligibility and Conditions
The Turkey e-visa for Indians is available only to Indian nationals who hold one of these supporting documents:
- a valid visa from a Schengen country, the USA, the UK or Ireland; or
- a valid residence permit from a Schengen country, the USA, the UK or Ireland.
Living in Dubai or Abu Dhabi? A UAE residence permit does not qualify — see our guide on Turkey visa for UAE residents.
The Turkish Embassy in New Delhi adds several practical rules that decide whether you will be allowed to board:
- Validity on the entry date: the supporting document must be valid on the day you enter Türkiye. Used and unused visas are both accepted if their validity covers your entry date.
- No e-visas as support: e-visas of other countries are not accepted as a supporting document.
- Visa in an old passport: accepted if still valid. Register the e-Visa on your current passport and carry the old passport too, to show Turkish immigration on arrival.
- Carry the original: the original supporting document must be with you at entry.
- Airlines check it: the e-Visa website does not verify your supporting document. Airlines and Turkish immigration do, and the Embassy warns that airlines will not board passengers whose document does not meet the criteria.
The e-Visa itself is a single-entry visa valid for one month, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is valid only when the purpose of travel is tourism or commerce. Plan for a passport valid at least six months from your arrival date, which the Ministry advises for all travellers. If you qualify, no biometrics are required.
How to apply for the e-Visa
- Go to the official website, www.evisa.gov.tr. The Embassy states that all other websites offering Turkish e-Visas are not official; they obtain the e-Visa from the official site and charge more than twice the official fee.
- Select India and your passport type. The site then shows the fee and the conditions that apply to you.
- Enter your identity, passport, travel dates and supporting document details, and pay online.
- Download the e-Visa. If you used a third-party website by mistake, check your e-Visa’s validity at the official status page (evisa.gov.tr/en/status/).
The Embassy notes that no company is authorised to issue or facilitate e-Visas for Turkish missions in India, and that the e-Visa costs at least USD 85 less than a sticker visa. The Embassy and Consulates do not answer e-Visa queries; questions go through the feedback form on the official e-Visa site.
Turkey Sticker Visa for Indians: Where to Apply
If you do not qualify for the e-Visa, apply for a sticker visa. Applications in India are handled by Gateway visa application centres, which take appointments and track applications. The Embassy states that it does not give information about individual applications. Contact Gateway’s call centre on 022 67866029, or email delhi@gateway.com.tr, mumbai@gateway.com.tr or hyderabad@gateway.com.tr.
Your application is decided by the Turkish mission responsible for your state:

|---|---|---|
| Embassy in New Delhi | Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir and the North-East | New Delhi, Gurgaon, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata |
| Consulate General in Mumbai | Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry | Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Goa, Cochin, Trivandrum, Chennai, Pondicherry |
| Consulate General in Hyderabad | Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha | Hyderabad |
Turkey visa fee for Indians

| Visa | Fee (INR) |

| Single entry | 4,555 |
| Multiple entry | 14,410 |
| Single transit | 4,555 |
| Double transit | 9,110 |

Documents for a Turkish tourist or business visa
Requirements depend on the purpose of travel, and the visa centre gives the current checklist when you book. A typical tourist or business file includes:
- original passport with at least six months’ validity and blank pages, plus copies of previous visas;
- completed and signed visa application form and biometric photographs;
- return flight reservation and hotel booking or invitation letter;
- bank statements for recent months and income tax returns;
- employment letter, leave approval or company registration documents;
- for business trips, an invitation from the Turkish company;
- travel health insurance valid in Türkiye for the whole stay.
Health insurance and sufficient funds are not formalities: missing insurance and insufficient means are both legal grounds for refusing a visa under Article 15 of Law No. 6458.
Turkey visa processing time
Under Turkish law, visa applications made to consulates are decided within 90 days at the latest (Law No. 6458, Art. 11(4)). The period runs from the date your file is complete. Apply well ahead of travel, and do not buy non-refundable tickets before the visa is issued.
Turkey Visa Application Form for Indians (and Invitation Letter)
The Turkey visa application form is needed for a sticker visa; if you qualify for the e-Visa, the online form at evisa.gov.tr replaces it. For a sticker visa, the signed form is the first document in your file at the visa application centre.
Where to get and fill in the form
Since 5 January 2016, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has required all Turkish visa applications to go through its online Pre-Application System (www.visa.gov.tr). Your application data is uploaded to this system either by you or by the visa application centre.
You must still hand in a signed visa application form with your passport and the original documents. The Turkish Embassy in New Delhi’s checklist asks for the form to be filled in by hand, in capital letters, in blue or black pen, with one photograph affixed and your signature.
Ask the visa application centre for the current version of the form when you book your appointment, and make sure every answer matches your passport, tickets and bank documents.
Is there a Turkey visa application form PDF?
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes its downloadable visa form as a Word (.doc) file, not a PDF. We did not find a separate PDF version on the Turkish Embassy in New Delhi’s pages.
Some PDF forms that appear in search results were prepared for Turkish visa centres in other countries. For an application in India, use the Ministry’s form or the one your visa centre gives you.
What a Turkey invitation letter for a visa must contain
If you are visiting a Turkish citizen or a foreigner living in Türkiye, or travelling on business, your file needs an invitation letter. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that the letter must include:
- the inviter’s Turkish ID number (TR Identity Number) and clear identity details;
- the list of people invited;
- the inviter’s permanent address and contact number;
- the purpose and length of your stay;
- the inviter’s relationship to you;
- a pledge that the inviter will cover your food and accommodation and take responsibility for you.
If the inviter is a company or organisation, its tax registration certificate is also required.
The Embassy in New Delhi adds that the letter should give your full name and passport number. For a visit to family or friends, attach a copy of the inviter’s ID and bank account information. For a business trip, submit the original letter from the Turkish company or a clear colour scan.
Is a Turkey Visa Hard for Indians to Get?
Not if the file is complete and consistent. Refusals almost always trace back to the statutory grounds in Article 15 of Law No. 6458: no valid health insurance, a purpose of travel that is not documented, insufficient funds, a passport that is not valid long enough, or an existing entry ban. For e-Visa travellers, the most common problem is a supporting visa that does not cover the entry date, or that is itself an e-visa.
If your application is refused, read the decision before reapplying. Our guide to the Turkey visa refusal letter explains each ground, what to fix and the 60-day deadline for a court challenge.
Staying Longer Than Your Visa Allows
A tourist visa or e-Visa cannot be turned into a longer stay by simply extending it. If you want to stay beyond the period your visa allows, you must apply for a residence permit before your visa expires; see our guide to the short-term residence permit and to Turkey visa extension options. Overstaying leads to fines and can lead to an entry ban; our Turkey overstay fine guide explains the calculation.
For visa types other than tourism and business, such as work, study or family visits, see our overview of Turkish visa types.
When to Involve a Lawyer
Most tourist applications do not need a lawyer. A refusal you cannot explain, a suspected entry ban, a work or family visa, or a plan to move to Türkiye is where legal advice saves time. Our immigration lawyers in Turkey review visa files, challenge refusals and handle residence permit applications.
